Our Story
Some of you may ask 'why candles'? A good question with a few answers. Firstly, we love scented candles. We've always loved scented candles and their wonderful smells. Secondly, we wanted to do something that would be family owned and run. Something that we can grow and in a 3 billion dollar industry there is plenty of room for that. Third, we wanted to give back in a special way and in a personal way to a cause from our heart. Finally, and this is a big part of why, I wanted control over my life and employment. I haven't had that since I was 17. Those of you here mostly know that thats because of my diagnosis of idiopathic peripheral neuropathy. Its a horribly invasive and life altering disease which shows itself in different ways with different people but it usually comes with severe nerve pain and degeneration, stress, anxiety, amputation, antibiotics, hospitalizations and yes sometimes death in the most extreme cases, usually due to a subsequent infection such as sepsis, which yes ive had. The other thing you get with this disease is the reality that holding down a job becomes extremely difficult and sometimes impossible.
In my particular case, ive suffered with foot pressure ulcers and severe nerve pain for ages. Unfortunately, the ulcer openings over the years resulted in numerous operations, infections, hospitalizations, home iv, and yes amputation. Ive been unable to hold a job for long periods of time because I would develop an ulcer and have to be off my feet for months and months. Now if that weren't enough, in 2020 I was delivering for Amazon and took a fall which ended up being a tibial plateau fracture of my right knee. Five years and multiple surgeries, infections, hospitalizations, later im now disabled and using a cane 90% of the time while unable to stand or do much physical activity for long periods of time. So, I finally said enough and decided I wanted to have a bigger say in my life in regards to how this would affect me. So, we started a candle company.
